Manifold and Coupler Valve Labels Reversed

Harbor Freight Tools (Harbor Freight) is recalling certain Pittsburgh Automotive A/C R134A Manifold Gauge Sets, part number 62707, sold between May 22, 2020 and August 11, 2020. The labels for the high pressure and low pressure manifold and coupler valves may have been swapped, incorrectly stating which way to open or close the valves.

Risk / consequence

The incorrect labels may result in the release of pressurized refrigerant, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Harbor Freight will notify owners, and send new replacement labels with instructions how to correctly apply them over the original labels. The recall began October 13, 2020. Owners may contact Harbor Freight customer service at 1-800-444-3353.

Chronology of events

1. Aug 4, 2020

   August 4, 2020. HFT initiated an investigation of the Automotive A/C Manifold Gauge Sets as manufactured, and performed Quality Assurance reviews of product. The test results indicated that certain isolated units of Automotive A/C Manifold Gauge Sets did not meet the labeling requirements. On August 25, 2020, Harbor Freight Tools decided to conduct a recall with replacement labels to address this issue with certain isolated production batch units of Pittsburgh Automotive A/C Manifold Gauge Sets identified as SKU 62707 and manufactured by Zhuji Gaode Machinery Co Ltd.
