Defect
ARBOC Specialty Vehicles, LLC (ARBOC) is recalling certain 2016-2020 Spirit of America and 2014-2019 Spirit of Liberty buses built on a Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) chassis. The power cables on the driver's side may have been routed incorrectly, allowing them to rub against the frame or make contact with the ground cable.
Risk / consequence
The misrouted power cables may short circuit, increasing the risk of a fire.
Remedy
ARBOC will notify owners, and dealers will re-route, inspect, and repair power cable wiring as needed, free of charge. The recall began June 24, 2020. Owners may contact ARBOC customer service at 1-866-953-5555. ARBOC's number for this recall is RC059801.
Chronology of events
- Dec 21, 2019
On December 21, 2019, there was a thermal event regarding the front electrical connections forward of the firewall. Onsite Inspections involving ARBOC occurred initially on December 23,2019 which included representation from the customer, ARBOC, ARBOC Forensic Expert, Freightliner Custom Chassis, New Flyer Service and Specialty Vehicles (selling Dealer). Additional Forensic Inspection occurred on January 7, 2020 which included representation from previous meeting and Freightliner Custom Chassis Forensic Expert. Concerns were raised with electrical routing and connections noted on two of the remaining units during the fleet inspection. All (34) remaining units at LAWA had the inspection and/or re-routing completed as proposed in this recall, Determination of creating a recall was determined necessary by ARBOC on June 3, 2020
