Defect

Kibbi, LLC (Kibbi) is recalling certain 2019-2021 Vienna and Villagio recreational vehicles. Exhaust temperatures may cause the storage box to melt or catch on fire.

Risk / consequence

The storage box may melt or catch on fire, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Dealers will add a heat shield under the storage compartment box, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on April 5, 2022. Owners may contact Kibbi's customer service at 1-574-966-0196.

    6/22/2021 – Retail made Renegade aware of a thermal event.

  2. Jun 25, 2021

    6/25/2021 – Renegade transported unit to factory.

  3. Jun 26, 2021

    6/26/2021 - 7/13/2021 - Investigation started pertaining to accuracy of events, materials, and the Mercedes regen process (unit goes to get warranty paint issues address from 7/14/2021-7/20/2021).

  4. Jul 20, 2021

    7/20/2021 – Testing performed on new chassis and the retail chassis with a prototype heat shield.

  5. Jul 21, 2021

    7/21/2021 – Testing performed on new chassis and retail chassis with the Regen system activated via Mercedes.

  6. Jul 22, 2021

    7/22/2021 – 7/29/2021 – Discussions over test results and a proposed new prototype heat shield.

  7. Jul 29, 2021

    7/29/2021 – A second unit in the field reports similar issue.

  8. Jul 30, 2021

    7/30-2021 – 8/2/2021 – Testing performed with a new chassis and retail chassis with the new prototype shield.

  9. Jul 28, 2021

    7/28/2021 – Decision finalized after test results are obtained.
