Defect
Aluminum Trailer Company (ATC) is recalling certain 2022-2023 PL700 trailers. The wire connections in the transfer switch may be tightened improperly and loosen.
Risk / consequence
Loose wire connections can overheat, increasing the risk of a fire.
Remedy
Dealers will tighten the wire connections, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 30, 2023. Owners may contact ATC customer service at 1-877-441-2440 ext. 342.
Chronology of events

7/24/2023 A warranty claim came in for transfer switch smoking and burnt wires. There were no injuries.
- Jul 27, 2023
7/27/2023 Our service department found a unit in service with loose connections in the transfer switch. There was no damage or injury . Early August: An investigation was initiated due to the loose connections. After the investigation was performed it was found that the improper tool was being used to attach the wires in the transfer switch which could result in the connections being loose. Immediate action was taken on the production line to ensure the proper tool was being used with the proper torque. An investigation was conducted on what units were at risk and it was found to be model PL700 5th wheels manufactured Aug 2022 to July 2023

8/17/23 It was decided that loose connections in the transfer switch could possibly cause friction and heat up and catch fire.

8/17/23 it was decided to continue with a NHTSA recall to have these connections checked for proper torque.
