Navistar, Inc. (Navistar) is recalling certain 2025 International LT vehicles. Two wires in the taillight jumper harness may be reversed, causing the turn signal to activate in the opposite direction of what the driver intended. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
Risk / consequence
Turn signals that do not function as intended may confuse other road users, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the taillight jumper harness, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 15, 2024. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825. Navistar's number for this recall is 24506.
Chronology of events
- Jan 30, 2024
• 01/30/2024 – During a pre-delivery inspection, Navistar Manufacturing sends communication to Navistar Quality that a vehicle was found with the rear turn signals flashing in the opposite direction due to two wires reversed in the tail lamp jumper harness.
- Jan 31, 2024
• 01/31/2024 – Navistar issues a ship hold at the assembly plant and initiates inspections of quarantined vehicles.
- Feb 2, 2024
• 02/02/2024 – Navistar meets with the supplier to discuss the issue and to review the supplier’s processes and opens investigation to determine if there are any vehicles impacted in the field.
- Feb 5, 2024
• 02/05/2024 through 02/23/2024 – Navistar Manufacturing inspects 179 units and repairs five. A customer/dealer inspection was inconclusive as to the presence of the issue in units that made it out of Navistar control.
- Feb 26, 2024
• 02/26/2024 – Navistar Quality, Manufacturing, and Product Safety meet to review the vehicle inspection/failure data and determine that vehicles with suspect jumper harnesses were assembled at the supplier on the second shift of 12/20/2024.
- Feb 28, 2024
• 02/28/2024 – Navistar Product Safety finalizes the suspect population.
- Feb 29, 2024
• 02/29/2024 – Navistar declares a Non Compliance Recall.
