Defect

Mazda North American Operations (Mazda) is recalling certain 2024-2025 CX-90 and 2025 CX-70 vehicles equipped with a Dash Electrical Supply Unit (ESU). During vehicle startup, the defroster, seat belt warning, 360° view monitor functions, and the PHEV high-voltage battery cooling system may not function properly.

Risk / consequence

An ESU that does not function properly, increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will reprogram the Dash ESU with improved software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 18, 2024. Owners may contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500 Option 6. Mazda's number for this recall is 7124J.

Chronology of events

  1. Jan 6, 2023

    January 6, 2023: Mazda received the first field report received from outside the U.S. market and started an investigation. 〜

  2. Jul 1, 2023

    July 1, 2023 February 29, 2024: Mazda received the first U.S. market field report and continued to receive four (4) additional U.S. market field reports through this time period.

  3. Mar 1, 2024

    March 1, 2024 ~ August 6, 2024: Mazda continued investigation and suspected internal computer malfunction related in the Dash Electrical Supply Unit (ESU).

  4. Aug 7, 2024

    August 7, 2024 : Mazda implemented a mass production change with improved software in the Dash ESU.

  5. Aug 8, 2024

    August 8, 2024 ~ October 15, 2024: Mazda completed the investigation and conducted a study of affected markets and vehicle populations.

  6. Oct 24, 2024

    October 24, 2024: Mazda held a Quality Audit Committee meeting to review all available information to date and approved a field action for affected MY2024-2025 CX-90 and MY2025 CX-70 vehicles. As of October 24, 2024, Mazda is not aware of any reports of accidents or injuries related to this concern. Also, as of this date, five (5) field reports have been received by the U.S. and Territory markets.
