Defect
Cummins, Inc. (Cummins) is recalling certain 2022-2024 Power Generation C275D2RE trailer-mounted generators. The unsecured wire leads may chafe against the starter motor housing or terminal and short circuit.
Risk / consequence
A short increases the risk of electrical shock or a fire.
Remedy
Distributors or warranty repair locations will inspect and repair the generator set wiring harness and secure the wiring leads, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 7, 2025. Owners may contact Cummins customer service at 1-800-286-6467. Cummins' number for this recall is C5807.

- Oct 25, 2024
October 25, 2024: Cummins received notification of the fire on the United Rental unit
- Nov 18, 2024
November 18, 2024: A work order for repair of the damaged United Rental generator set was created
- Nov 21, 2024
November 21, 2024: Two additional C275D2RE generator sets in the same fleet were inspected and found to have signs of wiring harness lead chafing

November 21, 2024: Cummins Power Systems Product Safety Leader was notified of the issue
- Nov 22, 2024
November 22, 2024: Cummins initiated a Product Safety Hazard Analysis to evaluate the potential safety risk
- Nov 26, 2024
November 26, 2024: An inspection of work-in-progress and finished C275D2RE generator set units at the Cummins Power Generation manufacturing facility in Fridley, Minnesota found units with contact between the exposed leads and the starter motor
- Dec 2, 2024
December 2, 2024: The Product Safety Hazard Analysis for this issue was completed and escalated through the Product Safety Defect Determination process for review by the Product Safety Defect Board
- Dec 10, 2024
December 10, 2024: The Product Safety Defect Board determined that the issue may constitute a Safety Defect and decided to initiate this recall. To date, Cummins has not received any reports of injuries related to this issue.
