Secondary Alternator May Short and Overheat

Storyteller Overland, LLC (Storyteller Overland) is recalling certain 2024 Beast Mode, Classic Mode, Stealth Mode, and Mystic Mode vehicles. An improperly torqued internal component may cause the secondary alternator to short circuit and overheat.

Risk / consequence

An overheated alternator increases the risk of fire.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the alternator, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed February 13, 2025. Owners may contact Storyteller customer service at 1-888-999-7442.

Chronology of events

1. Aug 4, 2024

   On August 4th, 2024, a customer reported an alternator thermal event. Storyteller's Service Team coordinated with Storyteller's battery system supplier, Lithionics Battery, to analyze the alternator, and Storyteller's Safety Committee opened an investigation. Representatives of Lithionics Battery identified a manufacturing error internal to the alternator relating to a suspected improperly torqued screw.

2. Nov 14, 2024

   On November 14th, 2024, a customer reported a potential battery system thermal event.

3. Nov 22, 2024

   On November 22nd, 2024, a dealer reported an alternator not charging. The dealer's service team identified potential heat markers on the alternator, and the alternator was sent to Lithionics Battery for evaluation. Representatives of Storyteller and Lithionics met on December 20th, 2024 to review production data from Lithionic Battery's sub-supplier. Both field alternators that were reviewed by Lithionics representatives were identified as stemming from a single production batch from Lithionics' sub-supplier. Storyteller's Safety Committee met immediately after the meeting with Lithionics and voted to recall the suspect population.
