Defect

Marion Body Works Inc. (Marion Body Works) is recalling certain 2024 Spartan Fire Metro Star vehicles. A missing mechanical stop may allow the cab tilt cylinder to be overextended.

Risk / consequence

Overextension of the cab tilt cylinder can cause the cab to drop, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect and replace the cylinder as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 27, 2025. Owners may contact Marion Body Works customer service at 1-715-754-5261.

Chronology of events

Oct 16, 2024
October 16, 2024 – Spartan Chassis production had cab tilt cylinder failure in inventory.
Oct 18, 2024
October 18, 2024 – Final stage manufacturer had the cab tilt cylinders fail during a tilting event. Spartan started investigations with Engineering and the Supplier. Quality alert issued in Spartan Chassis production.
Oct 21, 2024
October 21, 2024 – Spartan determined the potential population and issued an initial stop ship at Spartan Chassis. PSR team created. Spartan issued SCAR with Supplier.
Oct 22, 2024
October 22, 2024 – Spartan received additional information from Supplier on receival date of suspect product and filtered population. Spartan issued stop ship to all Spartan campuses and completed risk assessment.
Oct 23, 2024
October 23, 2024 – Spartan determined final population. Escalated the issue to REV Group Management.
Oct 24, 2024
October 24, 2024 – REV’s senior leadership approved a voluntary recall for this issue.
Nov 13, 2024
November 13, 2024 - Marion Body Works was notified by Spartan Motors that we had two affected chassis.
Nov 25, 2024
November 25, 2024 - Marion Body Works completed the inspection of the two chassis and it was confirmed that we needed replacement parts from Spartan Motors.
