Defect

PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2023-2024 Peterbilt 535, 536, 537, 548, 2023-2024 Kenworth T280, T380, T480, and 2024 Kenworth T180 trucks. The throttle pedal assembly may contain an oversized magnet carrier, slowing the responsiveness or causing the pedal to stick.

Risk / consequence

A pedal that sticks increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect and replace the throttle pedal as necessary, free of charge. Owner letters were mailed April 11, 2025. Owners may contact Peterbilt's customer service at 1-940-591-4220 and Kenworth's customer service at 1-425-828-5888. PACCAR's numbers for this recall are 25PBA and 25KWA.

  1. Aug 27, 2024

    08-27-24: Supplier notified PACCAR about warranty claims regarding the throttle pedal binding or sticking. PACCAR pulled warranty data for the parts and found 5 claims. PACCAR continued to monitor warranty for new claims.

    09-13-24: PACCAR pulls warranty data and finds no new claims for issue.

  3. Oct 8, 2024

    10-08-24: Orscheln informs PACCAR that they have determined that there is a safety related defect with their pedals. PACCAR pulls warranty data again and finds no new claims.

  4. Oct 14, 2024

    10-14-24: Orscheln Files Recall 24E-087 with NHTSA. PACCAR begins to work with Orscheln for population and details regarding the throttle pedals.

    10-29-24: PACCAR pulls warranty data and finds no new claims for issue.

  6. Nov 18, 2024

    11-18-24: PACCAR Receives suspect pedal list from Orscheln, along with 8D documentation, and inspection procedure.

    12-03-24: Orscheln formally sends notification of equipment recall to PACCAR.

    12-12-24: PACCAR meets with Orscheln to discuss the issue, Orscheln informs PACCAR that other OEM on recall will be filing for a recall with NHTSA.

    01-13-24: PACCAR pulls warranty data and finds no new claims for issue.

  12. Jan 14, 2025

    01-14-24: Safety committee meeting held. PACCAR determines the issue is a safety related defect. As of January 14, 2025, PACCAR received 5 warranty claims between 7/17/2023 to 3/21/2024 and 0 field reports about trucks in the field that are related. No reports of deaths or injuries have been received.
