Defect
Shyft Group (Shyft) is recalling certain 2025 Utilimaster Aeromaster vehicles. The rear seat belts may not have been installed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 208, "Occupant Crash Protection."
Risk / consequence
A passenger riding without a seat belt has an increased risk of injury.
Remedy
Owners are advised not to allow passengers to sit in the rear seats until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will install the rear seat belt, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 29, 2025. Owners may contact Shyft customer service at 1-800-237-7806. Shyft Group's number for this recall is 25-10.
Chronology of events
- Apr 30, 2025
On April 30, 2025, Product Safety and Compliance received customer complaint indicating they had received a unit without seat belts at the rear, designated seating positions. An immediate stop ship was issued for units believed to be in Shyft's possession. Between May 1 and May 2 Shyft confirmed the number of vehicles outside of its possession and determined that a non-compliance could exist in the affected population.
