Defect
Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2022-2025 R1T and R1S vehicles. The D-ring bolts for one or both front seat belt anchorage assemblies may not have been properly installed.
Risk / consequence
An improperly secured seat belt may not restrain an occupant as intended, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
Remedy
Rivian will inspect and properly secure the seat belt anchorage assemblies as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed July 8, 2025. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1681.
Chronology of events
- Jan 6, 2025
On January 06, 2025, Rivian received a warranty report of a seat belt D-ring that was not properly secured to the B pillar.
- Jan 10, 2025
On January 10, 2025, Rivian opened an investigation.
- Apr 22, 2025
On April 22, 2025, a second warranty repair potentially related to the investigation was performed. From January to May 2025, Rivian investigated the reason for the incomplete fastenings and found that both vehicles had the D-ring installation completed using a bypass process.
- May 27, 2025
On May 27, 2025, Rivian decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall of all potentially affected vehicles. As of the date of this filing, Rivian is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue in any market.
