Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2026 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles. The fasteners attaching the seat back to the seat bottom may have been improperly tightened.

Risk / consequence

The seat may not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.

Remedy

Tesla Service Centers will inspect and tighten or replace the seat assembly fasteners as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 16, 2025. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-25-13-003.

Chronology of events

1. May 12, 2025

   On May 12, 2025, as part of routine monitoring of field repairs, Tesla became aware of a customer complaint for a vehicle in which service found 2 of the 4 fasteners used to secure the seat back to the seat bottom missing on the driver’s seat. From May 13 through June 10, 2025, Tesla investigated the effect and scope of the condition. During this period, Tesla learned that a production change introduced on April 2, 2025, unintentionally resulted in the ability to manually advance the seat assembly from the back-up manual assembly station, without system assurance of completed torque of the fasteners marrying the seat back to the seat bottom assembly.

2. Jun 10, 2025

   On June 10, 2025, having completed its investigation, Tesla made a determination to voluntarily recall the affected vehicles. As of June 16, 2025, Tesla has identified 1 warranty claim and 0 field reports that may be related to the condition. Tesla is not aware of any collisions, fatalities or injuries that are or may be related to the condition.
