Battery Bracket May Break and Damage Battery

The Heil Co. (Heil) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Side Loader garbage trucks. The battery support bracket may break and damage the battery case, possibly resulting in a battery rupture.

Risk / consequence

A battery rupture increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the remedy is completed. Heil will replace the batteries, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 11, 2025. Owners may contact Heil customer service at 1-866-275-4345.

Chronology of events

1. Jul 14, 2025

   Heil was contacted by the supplier of the battery assembly on July 14, 2025. At that time Heil was made aware that the company had, during a non-related inspection, noticed that a bracket supporting the batteries had cracked. Heil visited the supplier and investigated the findings. Heil then researched records of similar models and determined that five units in the field are affected. Two units were inspected with no findings of cracks, however out of an abundance of caution Heil deemed it necessary to replace the batteries on all five units. That is being arranged at the time of this report. This battery design was discontinued in the product in 2023. Other models do not use this manufacturer or design.
