Defect

Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2025 R1S and R1T vehicles. An improperly grounded connection inside the High Voltage Distribution Box (HVDB) may cause a loss of drive power.

Risk / consequence

A loss of drive power increases the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Rivian will inspect and repair the HVDB ground strap joint or replace the high voltage battery pack as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed October 17, 2025. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1723.

Chronology of events

  1. Mar 14, 2025

    On March 14, 2025, a Rivian technician analyzed a battery pack that was replaced under warranty and identified an improper HVDB ground connection. From March 2025 through August 2025, Rivian opened and conducted an investigation to determine the root cause and identify the potentially affected population.

  2. Aug 14, 2025

    On August 14, 2025, Rivian decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall of all potentially affected vehicles. As of the date of this filing, Rivian is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue in any market.
