Defect

Wabash National Corporation (Wabash) is recalling certain 2026 DVCVHPC van trailers. The incorrect rear impact guard may have been installed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 224, "Rear Impact Protection."

Risk / consequence

The incorrect guard may not sufficiently protect a following vehicle during a rear end crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

Wabash replaced the rear impact guards, free of charge. All affected trailers were repaired by August 18, 2025. Owners may contact Wabash customer service at 1-765-771-5404.

Chronology of events

  1. Aug 15, 2025

    08/15/2025 - Wabash's Manufacturing team reported to the Wabash warranty team that 10 trailers left our facility with the incorrect rear impact guards installed. These trailers were shipped to a nearby dealer. The dealer was notified of the situation, and the vehicles were locked down until replacement parts could be supplied. A concern response (CR) was entered into the system to bring awareness to the Product Safety Team, (PST).

  2. Aug 18, 2025

    08/18/2025 - The first Concern response meeting was held, and investigations were started. The correct rear bumper assemblies were sent to the dealer for replacement.

  3. Aug 19, 2025

    08/19/2025 - The cause of the manufacturing error was investigated and corrected.

  4. Aug 26, 2025

    08/26/2025 - A Wabash warranty representative visited the dealer and inspected all 10 vehicles to assure the correct bumpers were properly installed. The PST held its bi-weekly meeting and discussed.
