Defect

KTM North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2024 390 Duke, 250 Duke, 990 Duke, Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, and Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 motorcycles. The seal on the fuel filler cap may develop cracks and leak fuel.

Risk / consequence

A fuel leak increases the risk of fire or injury.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect and replace the fuel cap gasket, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 15, 2025. Owners may contact KTM customer service at 1-888-985-6090. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will become searchable on NHTSA.gov March 31, 2026.

Chronology of events

  1. Mar 19, 2023

    03/19/2023 – The part supplier, MINDA, observed cracked sealing during lab testing. The condition was not observed on a production motorcycle. At that time, the supplier MINDA could not reproduce the issue.

  2. Mar 11, 2024

    03/11/2024 - Subsequent test by MINDA showed a cracked sealing. KTM requested quality improvements from the supplier MINDA. No cracked sealing was reported on production vehicles,

  3. Sep 4, 2024

    09/04/2024 - A cracked sealing was found on a KTM AG R&D test vehicle.

  4. Sep 11, 2024

    09/11/2024 - A second KTM AG R&D vehicle was observed to have a cracked seal. KTM AG requested MINDA to conduct further testing.

  5. Mar 18, 2025

    03/18/2025 - KTM determined a defect existed and a recall for the fuel cap seal was required. No accidents or injuries have been reported.
