Kia Motors America (Kia) is recalling certain 2025 Telluride and 2026 Sorento vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with an incorrect spare tire which, when installed, can impair the anti-lock braking system (ABS) and the traction control system (TCS). As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 110, "Tire Selection and Rims."

Risk / consequence

Anti-lock braking or traction control systems that do not function properly can increase the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the spare wheel and tire assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 3, 2025. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542. Kia's number for this recall is SC355. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning November 13, 2025.

Chronology of events

1. Oct 16, 2025

   October 16, 2025 Kia Georgia informs Kia North America (Kia NA) Safety Office that certain vehicles may have been equipped with an incorrect size spare tire. Kia NA Safety Office begins field data review while Kia Georgia investigates further.

2. Oct 24, 2025

   October 24, 2025 Kia Georgia confirms based on spare tire installation records that a total of 24 Telluride and 21 Sorento vehicles were equipped with a spare tire of an incorrect size on August 28, 2025. Kia NA evaluates potential noncompliance with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) and concludes the difference between the spare tire’s actual size and size information on the Tire Information placard does not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 110, §S4.3. Kia NA Safety Office completes field data analysis and finds no related reports.

3. Oct 27, 2025

   October 27, 2025 Kia NA decides to conduct an FMVSS 110 noncompliance recall of certain 2025MY Telluride and certain 2026MY Sorento vehicles. No accidents or injuries. 1 Kia America, Inc.
