Defect

The Heil Co. (Heil) is recalling certain 2023-2025 side loader garbage trucks equipped with certain Agility Fuel Solutions CNG Fuel Systems, using part number 10300466. The manual cylinder valves may develop stress corrosion cracks in the bottom plugged port, causing a leak.

Risk / consequence

A natural gas leak in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Agility will replace the valves, free of charge. All affected garbage trucks were repaired by August 14, 2025. Owners may contact Agility's customer service at 1-844-474-7400 or Heil's customer service at 1-866-275-4345.

Chronology of events

  1. Aug 31, 2024

August 31, 2024: Agility’s engineering team was advised of a report from a customer that the manual cylinder valve on a CNG fuel system experienced a leak. A review of service records revealed two additional failure reports (failure dates 6/19/2024 and 8/19/2024). Arrangements were made to obtain the valves for analysis. September 12 – November 13, 2024: Valves were sent to Agility engineering and a root cause investigation was initiated, which included the following activities: review of high magnification photos and analysis from engineering teams; regular meetings with the supplier, OMB- Saleri S.P.A. (“OMB”); review of internal Fourier(cid:0)transform infrared (FTIR) results of failed valve; review of OMB’s manufacturing processes; three failed valves were to OMB for analysis; review of preliminary findings from OMB; and testing of new valves from stock to attempt to recreate failure mode (high magnification photos, measurements of pressure test plug tools, pressure cycling, strain gage of valves, corrosion testing; and high temperature exposure). During this period, three additional valve failures were reported. Based upon the results of the investigation to date, Agility’s engineering team recommended that the matter be escalated to Agility’s Safety Committee for consideration.

  2. Nov 13, 2024

November 13, 2024: Agility’s Safety Committee decided to initiate a safety recall to address this condition.
