Defect

Grand Design RV, LLC (Grand Design) is recalling certain 2022-2023 Solitude and 2023 Momentum fifth wheels trailers. Loose or missing fasteners on the refrigerator cooling unit can allow excessive movement of the unit, possibly causing the propane line to crack and leak.

Risk / consequence

A propane leak in the presence of an ignition source can increase the risk of a fire.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect the refrigerator, and repair or replace it as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 23, 2025. Owners may contact Grand Design customer service at 1-574-825-9679. Grand Design's number for this recall is 910052. This recall is an expansion of NHTSA recall 24V378.

Chronology of events

  1. June 2024

    June 2024, Grand Design issued recall 24v-378 on 39 units containing affected components. The scope of this recall was originally determined by the production date range associated with known incidents at the time. Grand Design RV continued to monitor and investigate potential field signals.

  2. Oct 29, 2024

    On October 29, 2024, a consumer report was received concerning a failure outside the population covered by the original recall, and Thetford Inc. was subsequently notified. Based on the investigative findings Grand Design Product Safety reopened the product safety investigation. A joint laboratory inspection of the subject RV was conducted by Grand Design and Thetford Inc. on December 4, 2024, and findings were shared with Thetford Inc. on January 28, 2025.

  3. Apr 24, 2025

    On April 24, 2025, Grand Design received the second consumer report regarding a failure outside the prior recall scope. An initial inspection by Grand Design confirmed that the failure was substantially similar to those previously recalled. Grand Design notified Thetford Inc. on May 9, 2025, to coordinate a joint inspection. A field engineering study was initiated by Grand Design on May 30, 2025. A second study began on

    June 17, 2025, and Thetford was updated on the findings on June 19, 2025. Subsequently, on July 14, 2025, Grand Design and Thetford Inc. conducted an engineering evaluation of consumer refrigerators.

    In September 2025, Grand Design reported its findings to Thetford Inc. and sought collaboration for additional testing and evaluation.

    In October 2025, Grand Design escalated the issue to its product safety committee, which identified suspect units from three purchase orders involving events outside the scope of the original recall.

  9. November 2025

    In November 2025, Grand Design decided to expand the previous recall to include units sourced from Thetford Inc. under purchase orders determined to contain affected refrigerators with suspected cooling module securement.
