Defect
Rivian Automotive, LLC (Rivian) is recalling certain 2022-2025 EDV vehicles. The driver's seat belt pretensioner cable may become damaged.
Risk / consequence
A damaged seat belt pretensioner cable may not restrain the occupant as intended, increasing the risk of injury during a crash.
Remedy
Rivian has released an over-the-air (OTA) software update. In addition Rivian will inspect and replace the driver's seat belt pretensioner assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 16, 2026. Owners may contact Rivian customer service at 1-888-748-4261. Rivian's number for this recall is FSAM-1770.

On September 22, 2025, NHTSA opened preliminary evaluation PE25011 to evaluate “Potential failures of the driver’s front outboard seat belt anchorage system.”
- Nov 18, 2025
On November 18, 2025, Rivian decided to conduct a voluntary safety recall of all potentially affected vehicles. As of the date of this filing, Rivian is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue in any market.
