Defect

KTM North America, Inc. (KTM) is recalling certain 2025 390 Adventure R, 390 SMC R, 390 Adventure X, and 390 Enduro R motorcycles. Engine vibrations may cause the side stand spring to break and the side stand to fall to the ground.

Risk / consequence

A motorcycle side stand that falls to the ground while riding can shut off the ignition, increasing the risk of a crash or injury.

Remedy

Owners are advised to secure the side stand before riding the motorcycle until the remedy has been completed. Dealers will replace the side stand spring and install a new side stand sensor retaining plate, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed on February 17, 2026. Owners may contact KTM customer service at 1-888-985-6090. The manufacturer's number for this recall is KTB2514. The information in your report suggests that KTM North America, Inc. (KTM) may have been aware of this issue more than five business days before filing a report with NHTSA. Please be reminded that under Federal law, this agency is to be notified of all safety defect and/or noncompliance decisions within five business days. 49 CFR 573.6. Chronology of events

  1. Sep 9, 2025

    09.09.2025- KTM NA Customer Service received a dealer report that a side stand spring broke while a customer was riding.

  2. Sep 12, 2025

    09.12.2025- KTM NA Customer Service received an internal report from its media team that a side stand spring broke while riding.

  3. Sep 17, 2025

    9.17.2025 KTM NA gathered all the information from the two reports and sent this to KTM AG, Customer Service, for further investigation.

  4. Sep 20, 2025

    9.20.2025 KTM AG R&D started an internal investigation. 9.25. 2025-10.10.2025 – KTM AG R&D preformed multiple tests in street/off-road conditions and found under certain conditions, the the side stand spring may break. Upon completion of multiple test cycles, KTM AG R&D determined replacing the spring with one fitted with a rubber protector resolved the condition.

  5. Oct 13, 2025

    10.13.2025 – KTM AG determined a defect existed and a recall for side stand spring was required.
