Defect
Cummins, Inc. (Cummins) is recalling certain PD7000 Electric Drive, part number BES CM0904 EV104B. The System Control Module (SCM) software error may cause a stationary vehicle to move unexpectedly.
Risk / consequence
Unintended vehicle movement increases the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will update the SCM software, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 8, 2026. Owners may contact Cummins customer service at 1-800-286-6467.
Chronology of events
- Feb 10, 2026
February 10, 2026: A vehicle collision occurred in a customer's bus yard and was reported to Cummins Service Engineering.
- Feb 11, 2026
February 11, 2026: The Accelera by Cummins Product Safety Leader was notified of the incident.
- Feb 13, 2026
February 13, 2026: A review of datalogger data retrieved from the vehicle involved in the incident was reviewed with the software architect.
- Feb 20, 2026
February 20, 2026: The Accelera by Cummins engineering team was able to replicate the software behavior on a test vehicle.
- Feb 20, 2026
February 20, 2026: A Product Safety Hazard Analysis was initiated to evaluate this software behavior.
- Feb 27, 2026
February 27, 2026: The Product Safety Hazard Analysis was completed.
- Mar 9, 2026
March 9, 2026: The software behavior issue was reviewed by the Cummins Product Safety Defect Board and was determined to constitute a safety defect.
