Forest River bus, LLC (Forest River Bus) is recalling certain 2025-2026 Trans Tech school buses. The modified seating floor plan may exceed the the rear Gross Axle Weight Rating (GAWR). As such these vehicles fail to comply with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 120, "Wheels and Rims - Other Than Passenger Cars."

Risk / consequence

Overloading the rear axle may cause loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Dealers will modify the seating free of charge and provide a refund for lost seating capacity as necessary. Owner notification letters were mailed February 17, 2026. Owners may contact Forest River Bus customer service at 1-800-348-7440. Forest River Bus's number for this recall is 05-2015.

Chronology of events

1. Sep 12, 2025

   On September 12, 2025, Forest River received a complaint from a bus owner that one of their vehicles failed a state DOT inspection. Failure was due to the rear axle loaded beyond its GAWR. On the same day, Forest River started evaluating all School buses built in this facility. This took some time as each model has multiple configurations depending on the specific purchaser of the bus.

2. Jan 9, 2026

   On January 9, 2026, Forest River completed the evaluation.

3. Jan 16, 2026

   On January 16, 2026, Forest Rivers Corporate Recall Committee voted to recall.
