Missing Door Handle Lock/FMVSS 206

Orange EV (OEV) is recalling certain 2018-2023 T-Series Pure Electric and 2024-2026 e-TRIEVER terminal trucks. The driver's side door handles may be missing a lock. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components."

Risk / consequence

A door that cannot be locked may open unexpectedly during a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Remedy

OEV field service will replace the door handles, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 13, 2026. Owners may contact OEV customer service at 1-866-688-5223. OEV's number for this recall is 2026-SRC-01.

Chronology of events

1. February 2026

   Orange EV produces electric trucks that are primarily used at private shipping yards and terminals but may also operate on public roads in some capacity. Certain OEV trucks are “motor vehicles” while others are not designed or intended for use on public roads and not certified to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS). In early February 2026, as part of an ongoing compliance review, OEV discovered that a build option for non-locking driver’s door handles was available. OEV reviewed its internal records to understand whether the option was available for customers to select for the manufacture of FMVSS certified trucks. On or about February 10, 2026, OEV determined that the option for non-locking driver’s door handles had been made available to customers ordering an FMVSS certified motor vehicle. Following an analysis of compliance related considerations, on February 12, 2026, OEV determined that the affected trucks do not conform to FMVSS 206, S4.3 and removed the customer option for a non-locking driver’s door handle. To date, OEV is not aware of any warranty claims or other reports potentially related to the noncompliance.
