Defect

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2026 GLA 250 vehicles. The bowden cable may have been incorrectly installed, which can prevent the door from opening from inside the vehicle.

Risk / consequence

A door that cannot be opened may trap occupants inside the vehicle, which can increase the risk of injury.

Remedy

Dealers will inspect and repair the bowden cable assembly as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed May 1, 2026. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning March 13, 2026.

Chronology of events

  1. January 2026

In January 2026, these analyses concluded that a detachment over the life of the vehicle could not be ruled out and identified all relevant consequences, especially in a crash scenario.

  2. Feb 27, 2026

On February 27, 2026, MBAG determined that a potential safety risk cannot be ruled out and decided to conduct a recall. MBAG can confirm there are no warranty claims, field or service reports related to this defect in the USA.
