Defect
ARBOC Specialty Vehicles, LLC (ARBOC) is recalling certain 2018-2026 Spirit of Freedom and Spirit of Mobility transit buses. The rear brake lines may have been installed incorrectly causing the anti-lock brake system (ABS) modulator valve to malfunction. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 105, "Hydraulic and Electric Brake Systems."
Risk / consequence
Loss of the rear ABS system can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy
ARBOC will provide instructions to reroute and re-connect the rear brake lines, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 17, 2026. Owners may contact ARBOC customer service at 1-866-953-5555.
Chronology of events
02-Mar-26 - one of our non-USA based dealers notified us of a bus with a rear brake issue. The issue had been traced back to incorrectly connected brake lines at the rear ABS modulator valve. ARBOC investigated current production processes and inspected all buses at the production plant and found similar conditions. The brake line connection was corrected on the production process on 02-Mar-26. Over the next days, ARBOC researched and determined this condition was likely apparent on similar buses since the inclusion of 4-channel ABS brakes. 04-Mar-26: ARBOC held a special meeting of the Safety Committee and reviewed the information / condition found and determined a recall was warranted. 06-Mar-26: ARBOC preemptively began contacting dealers about the issue.
