Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC (MBUSA) is recalling certain 2025 G580 vehicles. The incorrect wheel bolts may have been installed during vehicle manufacturing.
Risk / consequence
Incorrect wheel bolts can allow a wheel to loosen or detach from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Remedy
Dealers will replace the wheel bolts, free of charge. Interim letters, notifying owners of the safety risk, were mailed May 29, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall became searchable on NHTSA.gov on April 2, 2026.
Chronology of events
During ongoing durability testing, MBAG conducted a test during which a wheel bolt loosened despite having been validated to specifications. MBAG immediately started initial investigation. The wheel assembly and bolt had been incorporated based on their successful use in the previous G- Class platform vehicle. Between September 2024 and January 2025, MBAG conducted detailed analyses using wheel bolts retrieved from internal test vehicles. These analyses focused on the various operational conditions, of electric G-Class vehicles, including factors such as vehicle mass, increased torque, and elevated force levels. These influencing parameters were additionally evaluated under extreme driving maneuvers in which bolt loosening might potentially occur.
