Defect

Corp. Micro Bird, Inc. (Micro Bird) is recalling certain 2023-2026 G5 and 2024 MB II school buses built on a GM chassis and equipped with a second air conditioning compressor kit. The drive belt pulley may contact and damage the the oil lines.

Risk / consequence

A damaged oil like may leak, increasing the risk of a fire in the presence of an ignition source.

Remedy

Dealers will secure the oil lines, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 29, 2026. Owners can contact Micro Bird Customer Service at 819-477-2012. Micro Bird's number for this recall is 26-121-OUS.

Chronology of events

  1. May 4, 2026

    On May 4, 2026, during regular road test at the Micro Bird facility, smoke escaping from the engine compartment was observed. The inspection of the vehicle revealed that the drive belt pulley was rubbing against the oil lines. It was determined that the drive belt pulley had been positioned that way during installation of the second air conditioning compressor kit.

  2. May 5, 2026

    On May 5, 2026, it was decided to recall the GM vehicles equipped with a second air conditioning compressor kit to inspect the position of the drive belt pulley relative to the oil lines, and if needed, correct the position so the pulley does not rub on the oil lines. Micro Bird has not received any claim nor is aware of any incident linked to this defect.
