Defect

Shyft Group (Shyft) is recalling certain 2025 Spartan RV Chassis K1, 2024-2026 RV Chassis K2, RV Chassis K3, and 2025-2027 RV Chassis K4 vehicles. The exterior brake lights may remain illuminated when the driver is not applying the brakes. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk / consequence

Brake lights that remain on may fail to alert other vehicles of the driver's intention, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Shyft will replace the pressure switch, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 5, 2026. Owners may contact Shyft customer service at 1-800-237-7806. Shyft's number for this recall is 26-05.

Chronology of events

  1. September 2025

[Chronology field blank — no formal timeline provided] Shyft Group identified that the brake pressure switch used in the air brake system may retain residual pressure, causing brake lamps to illuminate when the service brake is not applied. Cause: minimum release pressure was not specified during the selection of the pressure switch. New pressure switches were implemented in September 2025.
