Tesla, Inc. (Tesla) is recalling certain 2025-2026 Model Y vehicles. The certification label may not have been installed. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of 49 C.F.R. Part 567, "Certification."

Risk / consequence

Missing weight information provided by the label may lead to unintentionally overloading the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy

Tesla Service will inspect and install a certification label as necessary, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 17, 2026. Owners may contact Tesla customer service at 1-877-798-3752. Tesla's number for this recall is SB-26-19-002.

Chronology of events

1. Apr 17, 2026

   On April 17, 2026, Tesla discovered a vehicle with a missing certification label during a routine internal audit of its Fremont factory. Upon further investigation, Tesla discovered that its automated vision-scanning tool that verifies the presence of a properly affixed certification label was performing inconsistently. From April 20 through May 4, 2026, this issue was investigated internally to understand the impact and scope, including understanding if vehicles produced at the Tesla Gigafactory in Austin, TX were affected.

2. May 11, 2026

   On May 11, 2026, after completing the internal investigation, Tesla determined that a noncompliance exists and made a voluntary recall determination. As of May 13, 2026, Tesla has identified 0 warranty claims and 0 field reports that may be related to the condition. Tesla is not aware of any collisions, fatalities, or injuries that are or may be related to the condition.
