Defect

General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, XTS, 2015-2016 Cadillac ATS, CTS, and SRX vehicles. The front-driver air bag inflator may rupture during deployment.

Risk / consequence

An inflator rupture may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants, resulting in serious injury or death.

Remedy

Dealers will replace the front-driver air bag module, free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed July 6, 2026. Additional letters will be mailed once the remedy is available. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223. The manufacturer's number for this recall is N262555870. Chronology of events

  1. Apr 2, 2026

On April 2, 2026, a GM investigator submitted a report to GM’s Speak Up For Safety (SUFS) program following review of an analysis of propellant from ARC “D5” variant driver airbag inflators collected from the field. GM initiated an analysis of ARC D5 inflators after observing speckled low density (SLD) propellant inside “MC” variant ARC inflators that GM recalled in NHTSA Recall 22V246. SLD has been identified as increasing the likelihood of a high-pressure deployment that can lead to an inflator rupture, and certain D5 inflators were built with the same propellant lots that were used in the recalled MC inflators. GM is aware of one field rupture and one test rupture associated with these propellant lots, both in recalled MC inflators. GM recovered and dissected five D5 inflators. Of these, one had a high occurrence of SLD propellant. GM is not aware of any inflator ruptures in D5 inflators. On May 14, 2026, GM’s Safety Field Action Decision Authority (SFADA) decided, out of an abundance of caution, to conduct a safety recall of D5 inflators manufactured with the suspect propellant manufacturing lots.
